The Italian Parliament has an Open Data database packed with fascinating and useful information! You may not have heard of it, but now you do!

I used this resource to run a network analysis, looking into legislative connections between parties, especially focusing on how opposition parties differ in their bill proposals.

From a technical perspective, it was quite a challenge. The data is stored in a semantic database that had, at the time, limited and unclear documentation. I used the SPARQL endpoint to retrieve the data and R to perform Social Network Analysis. It took a lot of trial and error, but in the end, I managed to bring it all together —with some unexpected results.
